Walt Disney World Transportation Changes
Disney giveth, and Disney taketh away. Walt Disney World announced this week that they are ending the popular Express Transportation service. The up-charge service allowed you take a bus directly from one park to another, bypassing security and parking. According to WDWInfo, “The last day to purchase Express Transportation is (today). For guests that purchased a multi-day ticket, the service will operate through August 23rd.”
On a positive note, Disney has expanded the Lyft-based ride-sharing service “Minnie Vans” to include several more resort hotels. Previously the service was only available when activated by a cast member for guests at Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk Inn Resorts. The service was expanded this week to include the resorts of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge including the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, and Boulder Creek Villas.”
Jigsaw Returns To Halloween Horror Nights
Reports out this week have been confirmed, Jigsaw from the popular SAW franchise will return to Halloween Horror Nights at both Universal Orlando, and Universal Studios Florida with a new maze!
Attractions Magazine writes, “Based on the Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures hit horror film franchise, “Saw: The Games of Jigsaw” will bring to life the scariest game yet. In this all-new maze, guests will come face-to-face with the work of master craftsman “Jigsaw” and a collection of his most infamous traps from the Saw film series and upcoming eighth installment Jigsaw.” That film opens on October 27th.
Updated Mission: Space Omits Gary Sinise
Gary Sinise, the acclaimed actor who portrayed “CapCom” in the Mission: Space attraction, has been removed from the attraction. As we reported a few weeks back, Mission: Space just completed a lengthy refurbishment adding a new Earth based mission, and updating the attraction’s projection systems. When the attraction re-opened, Gary Sinise was gone.
WDWInfo reports that, according to Disney, “actress Gina Torres will brief you as you prepare for your mission aboard the X-2 Deep Space Shuttle at the International Space Training Center (ISTC).” Torres is most know for her roles on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Serenity, and most recently, Westworld.
Two Walt Disney World Attractions Close
This past Sunday two popular attractions closed. As expected, the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios became the final opening day attraction to close at Walt Disney World’s third park. The Great Movie Ride will be replaced by Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Epcot’s Universe of Energy closed Sunday as well. The attraction was plagued with frequent break downs in it’s final decade and in a cruel irony, the final ride through of the attraction ended with an evacuation. The cast members allowed guests stuck on the attraction to walk the track and take photos with the dinosaurs in the diorama. Universe of Energy will be replaced by a to be announced Guardians of the Galaxy attraction.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure To Close This Year
It seems that this year’s Halloween Horror Night’s 27 will be the final year for the cult classic Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure. Universal announced on their official blog that, “After 26 years of Excellent Halloween Adventures, these pop-culture icons are bringing their Farewell Tour to Halloween Horror Nights. Party on as the phone booth lands one more time at Universal Orlando.
Over the years, this show has morphed and shifted to fit with the changing tides of pop-culture. But at its heart, it has remained true to its nature. The Wyld Stallyns, from San Dimas—and their time-travelling phone booth—find themselves in the middle of pop-culture-parody chaos and must somehow save the world yet again.
But now the time has come for these most outstanding dudes to find adventure in other places and other times.”
The show has run at Universal Studios Florida during Halloween Horror Nights for 26 years.
Indiana Jones Coming To Animal Kingdom?
Orlando Informer dropped a bombshell of a rumor this week that speculates, with a lot of supporting theories, that Indiana Jones could be headed for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney has been rushing to fill it’s parks with IPs (intellectual properties) over the last few years, Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, Avatar, etc, and the latest rumor would fit right in with Disney’s current path.
According to this rumor, all of DinoLand, USA will be remade into Indiana Jones Land, with half of the attractions getting a theming overhaul and the other half being torn down and replaced by brand-new experiences. Dinosaur, the popular attraction that anchors Dinoland, is expected to be re-skinned as Indiana Jones Adventure, the 1995 attraction from Disneyland. This would be easier than you think considering that Dinosaur has literally the same exact ride vehicle and track layout as its Californian predecessor. The Boneyard Fossil Fun Site is expected to stay, with a makeover into an archeology-themed dig site.
That leaves the Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama miniland on the chopping block; all the real estate that is currently eaten up by both TriceraTop Spin and Primeval Whirl, along with their attending midway games and gift shop (Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures), could be home to one giant new E-ticket ride, although what, exactly, that could entail is anyone’s guess at this point in time.
Obviously no confirmation from Disney at this time.
