Marvel’s Ant Man Replacing Buzz Lightyear in Hong Kong
It was announced this week that Tomorrowland at Hong Kong Disneyland will be re-themed completely to Marvel as part of a multi-billion dollar update to China’s first Disney park. The first attraction announced for the new Marvel-themed area will be based on Marvel’s Ant Man.
According to Attractions Magazine, “Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters will be officially closing Aug. 31, 2017 to make room for (the new attraction). This new ride will use the same concept of target shooting, but taken to a whole new level of technology.”
Walt Disney World Bus Involved In Accident This Week
A scary moment for one Walt Disney World bus driver and 19 passengers on Sunday as a motorist ran a red light and hit a Walt Disney World Transportation Bus leaving the All Star Resort area.
Chip & Co reports, “Five people were transported to the hospital with injuries following the crash. The driver of the Disney bus, Collins Yakep, is reported to have serious injuries while two passengers on the bus had minor injuries. The driver of the SUV and the passenger in his vehicle were transported to the hospital with minor injuries as well.”
Memorial Sculpture Unveiled At Walt Disney World
We all remember the tragic story of the two year old child killed by an alligator at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort. The family opted not to sue the Disney company and created a foundation for child organ donation.
This week the Disney company unveiled a new sculpture on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon, near the spot where the boy was taken.
Virtual Reality Star Wars Experiences Coming To Disney Springs and Downtown Disney
Star Wars fans won’t have to wait long to begin diving into the Star Wars experience at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. WDWInfo reports that new experiences, by a company called “The Void” will open this winter at both Downtown Disney in Anaheim, and Disney Springs in Orlando. ” The experience will likely combine augmented reality, and special effects to immerse you in a Star Wars story.
Mary Poppins’ Cherry Tree Lane Headed For Epcot?
We’ve reported elements of this rumor before, but it has heated back up with new info this week. According to Orlando Weekly, “Disney is looking to the upcoming Mary Poppins Returnsfilm as the inspiration for this new mini-land. Cherry Tree Lane, the residential street used in both the original film and the 2018 sequel that will star Emily Blunt, will be realized with the same hyperreality as the London waterfront found at Universal Orlando.”
The street will mostly act as a glorified meet-and-greet from the Poppins characters with a small carousel, inspired by the films, located nearby. The carousel won’t be the same four-horse carousel found in the original movie. The horse that Julie Andrews rode in the original film has been displayed at Hollywood Studios in the queue for The Great Movie Ride, which is slated to close this weekend. That horse may be displayed in this new Mary Poppins-inspired mini-land.”
Disney Shopping For Second Private Island In Bahamas
Reports circulating this week that Disney is actively shopping for another private island in the Bahamas, presumable to add a second island destination for Disney Cruise Lines. According to Chip & Co, this new island may become an immersive Pirates-themed retreat.
More Details About Paradise Pier Pixar Re-Theme
It’s clear that Disney is trying to prepare Disney California Adventure to absorb some of the crows expected when Star Wars Land opens in 2 years. It was announced at the D23 Expo that Paradise Pier at Disney California Adventure Park would be seeing a Pixar re-theming in 2018, and this week we have more info from the rumor mill. Here’s what we are hearing:
California Screamin – to be closed for a six month refurbishment early next year. Will be re-themed around The Incredibles’ character Dash.
Ariels Grotto/Cove Bar – will close and be re-themed, no specifics yet but the princesses are out.
Turtle Talk – the popular Turtle Talk with Crush would move to it’s own standalone theatre in Pixar Pier increasing the attraction’s visibility and capacity.
Incredibles Themed Spinner – The open space inside the eastern helix of California Screamin will likely see a new Incredibles themed spinner attraction installed.
Park Name Change – with Marvel land coming in and Pixar taking over, it seems that the “California” theme of the park is fading, and Disney has taken notice. The latest rumors have the park being renamed “Disney Adventure Park” or some variation of within the next 5 years.
