Island’s Of Adventure’s “Dragon Challenge” To Close

Universal Orlando announced this week that Dragon Challenge, the attraction formerly known as Dueling Dragons, will close to make way for a yet to be named Harry Potter themed thrill attraction. The attraction occupies a large plot of land between Island of Adventure’s Lost Continent and Hogsmeade section of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The attraction opened as Dueling Dragons in 1999, was re-themed in 2010, and it’s last day of operation will be September 4th.

Fantasmic 2.0 Opens At Disneyland

The new Fantasmic has re-opened along Rivers of America at Disneyland. The attraction features updated projections, new special effects, an updated soundtrac and sound system, as well as new scenes featuring Pirates of the Caribbean and Aladdin!

Mobile Order System Coming To Two More WDW Restaurants

Pinnochio’s Village Haus and Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe are the next two Walt Disney World restaurants to be added to the mobile ordering service through the My Disney Experience App. It’s worth noting that friend of the show Laura ordered from Sa’tuli Canteen inside Pandora: The World Of AVATAR earlier this week and received her food in 90 seconds. Cool!

Disney Lifting Annual Pass Blockouts For Closing WDW Attractions

As we reported on last week’s show, Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Universe of Energy and The Great Movie Ride at Walt Disney World are closing in a few weeks to make way for new attractions. Many Walt Disney World annual passholders are blocked our through the summer and Disney is adjusting the schedule to allow people to experience those attractions before they close.

WDWNT reports that the Silver, and Weekday Select Annual passes will have access to all 4 DWDW theme parks beginning August 1st, but that the Weekday Select passes will remain blocked out on weekends.

Several Downtown Disney Stores To Close For New Dining

The Ridemakerz, Chapel Hats, and Build-A-Bear Workshop stores at Anaheim’s Downtown Disney District will be closing in the next few months to make way for new dining experiences. Downtown Disney is undergoing some big changes including the construction of Splitsville Luxury Lanes on the old House of Blues plot. More changes are expected.

Mission: Space Missions To Get New Names

When Mission: Space reopens at Walt Disney World’s Epcot in a few weeks, the Orange and Green team missions will be no more. Instead, the two versions of the attraction will be named to reflect their “destination.” “Mission: Space – Mars” and the tamer, more family friendly “Mission: Space – Earth” will re-open in August.

Extensive “Expedition Everest” Refurb Coming?

Several reports have hit the web this week about lighting tests being performed on the long-broken Yeti animatronic inside Animal Kingdom’s “Expedition Everest.” Add to that the return of a long missing bird animatronic near the top of the the attraction. Could a lengthy refurb be on the way? Will Imagineer Joe Rohde finally get to keep his promise to “fix the Yeti?”

Lights Of Winter Returning To Epcot For Holidays?

A new pin has been released for Walt Disney World’s 2017 Holiday Season at Epcot, and it features an old holiday favorite that closed 8 years ago, the Lights Of Winter. Lights of Winter was an archway of Christmas lights synchronized to music. The attraction closed in 2009…but perhaps this pin design (which you can see here) is a sign of it’s triumphant return?

“The Disney Story” with author Aaron Goldberg

Author Aaron Goldberg was scheduled to join us, but due to circumstances beyond his control he was unable. We will try to have him on at a later date. In the mean time, definitely check out his books “The Disney Story,” and his other (hilarious) book “Disney Declassified.”
