Disneyland Eliminates Re-Entry Handstamps

For as long as I can remember, 1 day tickets required an invisible black light hand-stamp for re-entry into a Disneyland theme park. That practice was quietly killed this week.

Inside The Magic reports, “Disneyland’s new policy (along with sister theme park Disney California Adventure) will involve taking a photo of every guest who enters the park, which will then be tied to their admission ticket in the Disneyland Resort computer system, eliminating the need for the stamps.” The only downside to this system, which has been in place for a while now for Annual Passholders, is that taking each guest’s picture is a slow process that could significantly increase waits at the front gate.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run Coming To Magic Kingdom

It appears that the death warrant has been signed for Tomorrowland Speedway at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Several unrelated sources announced this week that we will see an announcement at this weekend’s D23 expo about the future of that massive plot of Tomorrowland real estate.

Those same sources are saying that we will see none other than the wildly popular TRON Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster move in before the Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary with an opening expected in 2020 or 2021. Tomorrowland Speedway opened with the park in 1971 as Grand Prix Raceway, expect it to close in 2018.

Avengers Coaster Headed For DCA?

One of the rumors coming out of Walt Disney Imagineering is that an Avengers roller coaster will be built behind Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! The coaster, according to MiceChat will have, “all the techo bells and whistles the Imagineers can throw at it (high speed launches, onboard audio, 3D visuals, animatronics and endless special effects).” Expect an announcement about this project, which is expected to take three years to complete, at D23 this weekend.

Bugs Land Goes Bye Bye

Another rumor making the rounds this week is that Bugs Land, directly to the west of the proposed Marvel-Land expansion, will be closing sooner rather than later.

The land is themed to the Disney/Pixar film A Bugs Life and features standard flat rides like bumper cars with a buggy spin on them. The main attraction in the area is “It’s Tough To Be A Bug,” which would also close if this rumor comes to fruition. The eastern part of the land would be absorbed into the new Marvel-Land, and the It’s Tough To Be A Bug show building would be gutted and receive a new D-Ticket “family dark-ride attraction.”

California’s “It’s Tough To Be A Bug” has seen a little neglect after it’s recent digital projection upgrade…this announcement would surprise almost no one.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: HALLOWEEN?

Imagineers are reportedly hard at work on a Halloween overlay for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! That could be announced at this weekend’s D23 Expo, or at San Diego Comic Con later this year.

Paint The Night DCA Bound

Those overhead trolley wires at Disney California Adventure are fake, and they may be going away soon. Rumors are swirling that the Paint The Night Parade will cross the promenade and open as part of Disney California Adventure’s holiday offerings this year. If that happens, the overhead wires would need to be removed permanently to make room for the tall Paint The Night floats.
