This rumor has really started to heat up this week, could Shanghai Disneyland’s wildly popular Tron Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster be headed to Walt Disney World…and Disneyland?
Based on the sheer number of rumors I am hearing from varying sources, I am going to say that this is very close to being a reality.
Here is the latest…a Tron reboot/sequel is reportedly under works with Disney very interested in Jared Leto to star in the new franchise. If this comes to fruition, construction would likely begin sooner rather than later. But where?
Magic Kingdom Park
There are two locations being considered for Tron Lightcycle Power Run at Walt Disney World.
The first being the former Galaxy Palace Theater space, which is now a cast member parking lot. The entrance to the attraction would sit between Carousel of Progress, and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin.
The second, the massive plot of land currently occupied by the Tommorowland Speedway.
Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park
There are two locations being considered in Anaheim as well.
The first being the current location of the old Carousel of Progress building, which is now the Star Wars Launch Bay. The two story building is gigantic, and putting the attraction there between Pizza Port and Autopia would really pop visually. We can only hope that the old people mover tracks would be removed as well…here’s hoping. But can you imagine the Tron building as part of the Tomorrowland skyline!? WOW!
The second location being considered is the forthcoming Marvel themed land at Disney California Adventure. The rumor is that the area where Mike & Sully to the Rescue (which broke down on our last visit) currently sits, as well as the current Harbor Blvd.. will be absorbed into the new area, and could be the site of Tron Lightcycle Power Run, or at least a version of it re-themed to match the land.
Only time will tell…but I sincerely hope that both of these rumors are true!
