Pirates of the Caribbean Celebrates 50 Years!
Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean turns 50 this weekend, and beginning Thursday, March 16, Disneyland is pulling out all the stops to celebrate. Starting with special pirate-themed food at several food service locations in and around New Orleans Square.
On the attraction’s official anniversary, March 18. Disneyland will host pirate-themed entertainment throughout New Orleans Square. There will also be limited-edition anniversary merchandise, available in New Orleans Square while supplies last.
Universal Releases Volcano Bay’s “Back Story.”
Universal Orlando is working hard to get their new theme/water park Volcano Bay open by Memorial Day. This week they released a cool video with more concept art, and the park’s back story, centered around the fictional “Waturi” tribe. The video, which you can watch here, also reinforces the fact that Volcano Bay will have no lines. Another new piece of info, the video claims that guests will not have to carry rafts to the top of the slides either.
Volcano Bay opens at Universal Orlando on May 25th.
Walt Disney World Railroad Re-Opens
The Walt Disney World Railroad re-opened this week following just over 2 months of refurbishment.
The official announcement came on Twitter on March 13th, but our source inside The Magic Kingdom says the railroad opened on March 11th. The railroad opened with a new “Magic Kingdom” sign too, you can see that here.
Orlando Water Parks Closing Due To Cold
One for the, “wait…this is Florida?” file…several Orlando area water parks will be closed today and tomorrow due to cold. Yes, we are talking about Florida…in March.
Both of Disney’s water parks, Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach, as well as LEGOLAND Florida’s water park will be closed Thursday and Friday…Sea World’s Aquatica was closed today.
More info here.
Tangled PhotoPass Location Extended
Remember that iconic scene in Disney’s Tangled where the lamps were released into the sky? There is a fabulous photo spot inside Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom that is allowing guests to recreate that moment by holding a lamp, while the lamps near Rapunzel’s castle in the background finish off the illusion. Until this week, the PhotoPass location had a shelf life.
Disney announced this week that, no doubt due to popular demand, the special location has been extended past it’s scheduled closing date…today…and will remain available to guests each night until further notice.
Walt Disney World Phasing Out FLIK Cards
For many years Disney has been using a system called FLIK to update it’s attraction times on in-park signage, and on the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps. You’ve seen the red cards that are randomly handed out at the entrance to an attraction, and collected at the load platform. That’s FLIK.
Theme Park Tourist reports that the FLIK system at Walt Disney World, “will be completely gone in the next few weeks.” to be replaced by a MagicBand-based system, which will automatically scan guests’ MagicBands as they enter and exit the attraction.
No confirmation from our friends at Walt Disney World on this yet, and no word on the future of the program at Disneyland.
Fastpass Coming To ‘Midway Mania’ At Disney California Adventure Soon!
We’ve been hearing reports that Peter Pan’s Flight at Disneyland, and Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney California Adventure will both be getting FastPass soon…TouringPlans on Twitter posted the following photo this week confirming at least half of this rumor.
Good news for sure! The only evidence, so far, of Peter Pan’s Flight’s imminent FastPass location is the closing of the Heraldry shop next door…

It’s NOT Emu!
This is an urban legend that just will not die. The actor who played Flynn Rider in Tangled, Zachary Levi went on Conan this week and claimed to have inside knowledge that Disney’s famous Turkey Legs were in fact emu legs. This is a myth that has been debunked more times than I care to count, yet…it persists.
Next week, our friend Adam will join us in studio to discuss more Urban Myths from the parks.
The Internet Reacts To Christian Mom’s Disney Vacation Cancellation
A blogger called, “The Modest Mom” announced to the world that she would be cancelling her “$6000 Disney Vacation” because of Disney’s promotion of the “LGBT Agenda.” The internet of course would not let that stand, and one woman named Cindy Foster took to Facebook with a hilarious response.
