Cirque Du Soleil’s ‘La Nouba’ Closing
We had this last week in rumors, but now it is confirmed. Walt Disney World’s resident Cirque Du Soleil show La Nouba will close on December 31st after nearly 20 years. The press release from Disney hinted at a new Cirque show headed to Disney Springs, saying, “Wondering what’s next? Given Disney’s strong relationship with Cirque du Soleil over the years, we may soon have news to share about exciting new entertainment coming to Disney Springs…”
No word yet on whether the new show would take place in the same theatre, or in another location. Read the whole story here.
Disneyland No Longer Allowing People To Save Spots For Parades
Disneyland announced this week that people will no longer be able to camp out curbside for the parade. Saying, “Anyone who puts down a blanket, sits down on the curb for an extended period, or otherwise appears to be saving spaces before the parade team rolls out the route is being told to get moving.”
After the parade team puts up the ropes, people may get into position, but may not save empty spaces…if your party leaves, and someone takes the spot, too bad.
Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon Soft Opens
Universal Orlando‘s latest attraction Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon soft opened to the public this week. A soft-opening, for those of you that don’t know is basically a technical rehearsal where cast and crew can workout kinks in the attraction’s operations before the grand opening.
Initial reports are the attraction is pretty cool, but that the queue is the real star. There is no formal line, you are allowed into the queue areas and attraction in groups and are entertained throughout. It’s pretty innovative, check out the video here.
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Refurbished Room Photos Released
Disney released photos of the re-imagined rooms at their Anaheim luxury property this week. The rooms new designs are, according to Disney, “a contemporary take on the Arts & Crafts style featuring all-new furniture made of natural oak, specially designed for each room, as well as California-inspired artwork created by artists and Imagineers, including beautiful headboard walls with wood inlay designs featuring orange trees and Chip ‘n Dale!”
Personally, I think the rooms are pretty, but seem a little…bare. Check out before and after photos here.
Disneyland Cancels Friday and Saturday Night Fireworks Shows
This one we observed while we were at Disneyland this weekend. Apparently high winds are wreaking havoc on Disneyland’s new “Remember Dreams Come True” fireworks show. Friday night our friend Jerrod Maruyama informed us that they cancelled the show 10 minutes in citing high winds, the same thing happened Saturday night as we waited on the patio of Disney California Adventure’s Carthay Circle restaurant.
It seems that the new show is getting cancelled frequently due to high winds because of it’s hub perimeter fireworks, which are cool, but not if they are causing the show to go down so frequently. If you’re planning a trip, be sure to keep an eye on the weather.
Mickey’s Halloween Party Moving To Disney California Adventure
There is a rumor circulating that could see Disneyland’s Halloween festivities moving across the esplanade to Disney California Adventure (DCA) in 2017.
The move is being blamed on increased attendance and DCA’s ability to handle the crowds better than it’s older sister. The rest of the story is here.
Disneyland’s New Parking Garage/Eastern Gateway Postponed?
The team over at Fresh Baked and Stuff, a fun YouTube channel we follow, posted a really cool video showing some new animations from the City of Anaheim. The animations show, in a lot more detail the proposed eastern gateway, parking garage, transportation hub, security checkpoint and pedestrian bridge.
The video also points out the fact that the plans for the massive construction project seem to be stalled currently, as no new construction has been spotted on the site in the last few months. Unfortunately, we don’t have any new info on why the project has stalled.
Check out the video here.
Kory’s Chicken Rant
We checked out the Red Rose Taverne overlay at Disneyland this weekend and while “The Grey Stuff” was truly delicious, I had a bad experience. They have a menu item called “Beast’s Burger” that sounds amazing. Gruyere Cheese, Horseradish Aioli…I mean…WOW! However, I don’t eat beef, it’s just a thing with me. So, I requested the Beast’s Burger, but to sub in a Chicken breast (which is also on the menu). Seems simple right? My cashier asked the kitchen and was told that they wont substitute chicken. I offered to pay for the Beast’s Burger, which is $2 or $3 more expensive, I just want the beef patty gone, and the (cheaper) chicken put on. Still no!
Isn’t Disney supposed to help people with dietary restrictions? I have never had a request flat out declined before. After waiting in line for nearly 30 minutes, I was pretty disappointed to be forced to order a sandwich that I didn’t want. It was good, but it wasn’t what I wanted. Am I crazy?
#DisneyAsAnAdult w/ Simon
Ever since I read the Thrillist article that was shared on the No Midnight blog and No Midnight podcast a couple weeks back I’d been think… What makes people go to Disney Parks as adults? There must be something that attracts people to invest in an annual pass, take long road trips to the park, spend money at the park and really and throughly enjoy themselves when they visit, whether it’s family or friends or significant others.
Well, I’ll give you my perspective and my experience; I’ve been annual Disneyland passholder for about 8 years and in these 8 years, Disney parks are never the same every time I go. It might be the people that we visit with, it might be the experiences we get to partake in when visiting the park, for example the attractions, the show or perhaps it’s the dining experiences we made reservations for. Disney parks are always evolving, don’t get me wrong there are some things that never change, but others that do. I’ve really enjoyed this evolution because there’s always something new and exciting to look forward to when I visit the park.
Oh and let’s not forget, as an adult you have the luxury of having a nice glass of wine, beer or cocktail while visiting the park. Yes, you can even sip your IPA Brooke.
I want to challenge and invite all the podcast listening to share their #DisneyAsAnAdult experiences with us. We want to hear what makes you enjoy Disney Parks so much as an adult. So here’s your time to shine – visit the No Midnight Blog Facebook page and tell us your story, and you can also share pictures on Instagram just make sure to use the hashtags #DisneyAsAnAdult so we can see them. If you visit the hashtag, you’ll noticed we already shared a picture or perhaps pictures from our weekend trip to Disneyland.
