There is so much going on in the domestic parks right now that it is hard to keep it all sorted out. Here is what we know.
Tower Of Terror
The west coast version of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will close at the end of 2016 to make way for a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. Fans of this classic attraction will be pleased to know that the new attraction, detailed here, will keep the same ride system. The new attraction is expected to open in Summer 2017.
World Of Color Celebrate/Disneyland Forever
Heartbreaking I know, but both of these “Diamond Celebration” shows are closing in September, with World Of Color Celebrate closing first on September 6th, and Disneyland Forever closing on September 8th. Fantasy In The Sky will return to Disneyland on September 9th, and the original World Of Color will return to Disney California Adventure on September 7th.
Paint The Night/Main Street Electrical Parade
Fans of the Paint The Night parade at Disneyland were freaking out when Disney announced the closure of it’s shiny new parade after just a year. Then, some relief. It turns out that Paint The Night will not (immediately anyway) ship out to Walt Disney World. It will stay at Disneyland and run during certain nights this holiday season.
In a more exciting development however, Disney also announced that the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade will return to the streets of Disneyland, where it debuted some 50 years ago, for one final run before being discontinued for good. Theme Park Tourist reports, “While we don’t have an official beginning or end date for the Main Street Electrical Parade yet, Disney has confirmed that Paint the Night will be back in time for Christmas, so it looks like either it will be a short farewell for the Main Street Electrical Parade or these two parades will run intermittently together for awhile.”
Hyperspace Mountain, which is essentially Space Mountain with a (wildly popular and exceptionally well executed) Star Wars overlay will come to a close on September 5th. It will be replaced by the Halloween version of Space Mountain, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy which will finish on October 31st, making way for the original Space Mountain to return on November 1st.
When Fantasmic returns to River of America in Summer 2017, it will come with some serious upgrades. WDWNT reports that the attraction will see new HD projection systems, an upgraded light show, new sound, and a new scene!
The new scene, rumored to replace the Peter Pan sequence in the show, will see Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbossa and the scurvy crew of the Black Pearl in a technologically advanced scene with stunts, and projection mapping technology that will turn the Sailing Ship Columbia into The Black Pearl!
New Parking Structure
The news broke last week that a new parking structure will be taking over the land directly to the east of the Harbor Blvd hotels. The latest on that is on our week in review!
California Adventure & Fantasyland Expansions/Toontown Closing?
With the new parking garage going in, and the transportation loop moving east, the latest rumors are that Disney California Adventure will expand it’s footprint north creating a possible new home for Mickey Mouse? Could this mean the end of Mickey’s Toontown? A Fantasyland expansion?
There is SO much going on in the Disney universe right now, I’ll keep my eyes peeled, and keep you posted on the No Midnight Blog!
